Functional Safety Training aims to meet RAMS requirements (reliability, availability, maintainability, safety) that constrain systems, software, and/or hardware considered critical and often subject to certification in various sectors (e.g., railway, aerospace), under normal operation or in the event of a failure.

Objectives

  • Understand the concepts of Functional Safety, their key characteristics and differences
  • Know the approaches (methods and tools), what they provide and their limits, and apply them to conduct different studies
  • Identify Functional Safety activities that can carried out at different stages of the V-model, at the system, software, or hardware level

Prerequisites

General knowledge of software development and the V-model is recommended.

3-Day Program

  • General concepts: definitions, risk analysis, notion of failure, notion of requirement, safety level…
  • Methods and tools: methods and recommendations for risk analysis, independence, functional analysis, fault trees…
  • System functional safety: preliminary analysis (APR / APD), analysis of single failures (FMEA), analysis of multiple failures, independence analysis, safety case…
  • Software functional safety: fault prevention, fault removal (AEEL, RCC), fault tolerance…
  • Hardware functional safety: probabilistic definitions of reliability (failure rates, MTTF, MTBF), maintainability and availability, reliability block diagrams, reliability of non-repairable / repairable components…

Evaluation

Questionnaires will be administered at the start and end of the training to assess learning outcomes.

Our Expertise in Functional Safety

For over 20 years, Systerel has performed functional safety, reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAMS) analyses on industrial safety-critical systems.

Systerel is an active member of the Institute for Risk Management (IMdR), which brings together companies involved in risk management, functional safety, and complex system security.

The training includes exercises and practical examples of software applications.
