Systerel partnered with Equans Ineo UTS on the extension of Lyon’s T6 tramway line.

The extension of Lyon’s T6 tramway line has officially entered service.

This new 5.4-km section, featuring 10 additional stations, significantly enhances network coverage across the Lyon metropolitan area and improves everyday mobility for residents.

As part of this major infrastructure project for the Lyon Metropolitan Authority, Systerel worked alongside Equans Ineo UTS on the line extension, particularly at the Villeurbanne stations and the Doua campus.

By combining safety programmable logic controllers (SPLCs) with formal methods, our teams contributed to the deployment and integration of a modernized tramway signaling control architecture: from factory design and configuration through on-site validation during commissioning.

More specifically, Systerel supported the railway signaling scope of the project through:

  • Implementation of route-setting logic within the PLC application software
  • Management of interfaces with the SCADA supervision system
  • Verification that all established routes strictly comply with safety requirements (SPLC-based control)

Because railway signaling is, above all, about ensuring secure tram operations.

Our involvement also included nighttime test runs of T6 in Villeurbanne to validate overall system performance during integrated system testing.

Leveraging its expertise in critical systems engineering, Systerel supports the modernization and digital transformation of railway systems to meet the evolving needs of cities and regional authorities.

Congratulations to all the teams whose dedication contributed to the successful delivery of this project.
